Fortran

Fortran

Fortran, short for Formula Translating System, is a programming language developed in 1957 & still used today. It is one of the oldest programming languages - compare with COBOL.

Fortran was developed by IBM and used by various agencies such as at NACA which would later become NASA by the likes of computer programmers & mathematicians like Annie Easley.

The most famous quantum package in Fortran is of course Quantum Espresso. Used at Schrodinger under the hood.

Quantum Espresso stands for (ESPRESSO: opEn-Source Package for Research in Electronic Structure, Simulation, and Optimization).
