Welcome to Lichen
Lichen is a collaborative wiki built on the AT Protocol.
Everything you write is stored on your own server and travels with you across any compatible app. Lichen doesn't hold your data, you do! [^1]
If you've used Wikipedia, Notion, or Obsidian, the basics will feel familiar. The difference is what happens to your writing after you hit save. On most platforms, it goes into their database. On Lichen, it goes into yours.

How it works
Each wiki and every edit you make lives on your Personal Data Server (PDS), not on Lichen's infrastructure. If Lichen disappeared tomorrow, your work would still exist, readable in any ATProto app.
That's the AT Protocol: an open network, originally built for Bluesky, that separates your data from the platforms you use to access it. Lichen is one app on that network. Your writing isn't.
Writing
The editor is a split pane: markdown on the left, live preview on the right. Notes link to each other, every save creates a revision, and your profile travels with your Bluesky (or atmosphere) account.
