What you can do

Lichen is built around two things: notes and wikis. Notes are individual pages. Wikis are collections of them, with a roster of people who can read or contribute.

Create a wiki

From the home page, click "New wiki". You'll give it a name, pick a language, and decide whether it's public or private.

Public wikis are visible to anyone, with no account required to read them. Private wikis are only accessible to members you've approved. You can change this setting later.

Write notes

Inside a wiki, click "New note" to start writing. Give it a title, Lichen will generate a slug from it automatically, though you can edit the slug yourself if you want something specific.

Each note is its own page. Link between them with [[double brackets]], and Lichen takes care of the backlinks.

You can now write LaTeX!

Invite collaborators

Go to your wiki's members page to manage who has access. People can request to join public wikis, or you can invite them directly. Once they're in, you assign them a role: admin or viewer.

Admins can write, edit, and manage members. Viewers can read but not edit. See Roles and permissions for the full breakdown.

Bookmark wikis

Click the bookmark button on any wiki to save it to your profile. Bookmarked wikis show up on your profile page for quick access — useful for wikis you contribute to but didn't create.

Your profile

Your profile page shows three things: the wikis you own, the ones you collaborate on, and your bookmarks. It's tied to your Bluesky account, so your handle is your identity across the AT Protocol network.

Sign in with your Bluesky account to get started. If you don't have one, you can create one at bsky.app.
